A LIFE ALTERING PROJECT

The Beauty of Suffering

For many years I have been transfixed by the notion that suffering is inherent to a sense of meaning. I had already experienced a profound deep interior transformation when I began to accept that life could hold no meaning without sacrifice and the suffering that accompanies it. But when I heard an Essay by Dr. Jordan Peterson on Michelangelo's Masterpiece, The Pieta, I began to experience the cosmic level of this truth.

I became obsessed and spent hundreds of hours meditating on the sculpture, its layered meaning, and the Scriptures that inspired it. A powerful narrative thread began to emerge and slowly over time coalesced into the most moving story I have ever written.

A striking visual language came with it. Inspired by the works of Caravaggio and his radical take on Christian stories, I crafted a look rarely seen before on film that would allow us to focus on the human element of the stories, keep the project scale manageable, and stand out among the commonplace style of modern Biblical films.

Pieta: A Meditation on Suffering will be a powerful and piercing look into the depths of Christianity and our humanity through the story of a Mother and Son. Two people called to divine purpose grappling with the knowledge that their mission will cause great pain for the other and the temptation to fight destiny to spare the ones they love from pain...
